Google pulls plug on first and second gen Nest thermostats

It’s almost like the posts write themselves. I don’t even need to generate them. Once again we have a device that a large number of people bought and paid for, and very soon it will be a brick.

Sure, most technology stops working at some point in time. The amount of CD’s still laying around my house I don’t even want to talk about. But, if I wanted to play any CD I could. And imagine for what-ever reason you couldn’t or didn’t want to buy or update your thermostat. At the very least you’d have to pull it out and buy something that was manual or some sort of local control

It’s very easy to argue this is simply the way it goes. But it’s also very easy to argue it doesn’t have to be that way.
